In 2024, Stéphane began working on a shoewear project, called zéné lyondéva, inspired by Bulgarian heritage, artisanal craftsmanship, and aesthetics. Stéphane is responsible for the creative direction of the project and the product development, from sourcing to production.
zéné lyondeva explores the condition of Bulgarian artisanship and, consequently, its part of the European heritage, while trying to import artisanal skills into Bulgaria and cultivate young craftsmen. This initiative is done to sustain the longstanding and rich tradition of Bulgaria's craftsmen and create new opportunities for them to adapt to today's market.
zéné lyondéva
zéné lyondéva is the embodiment of the Bulgarian grandmother. A key figure in Bulgarian cultural heritage and a living link between modernity and tradition. This personality, based on a real Bulgarian grandmother, is a reference to the roots of the project and its vision.
This project is a nod to the hardworking generation of our ancestors and an attempt to build on their legacy.
tsarvouli
Inspired by the Bulgarian tsarvouli — a one-piece dancing shoe — the zéné lyondeva team created a contemporary reinterpretation of this traditional footwear.
prototype
By creating a custom last in Rhino 3D, modeled after the traditional tsarvouli, Stéphane developed a distinctive shape for a contemporary shoe, blending historical inspiration with a modern reinterpretation of the silhouette.
Working with a young Bulgarian artisan and sourcing materials from Bulgarian suppliers and manufacturers, the project is on track to launch its first collection in March 2026.
